Project undertaken by the Government of West Bengal

JOB RESERVATION 
2% of the vacancies in Govt. establishments for handicapped person
At least 1 handicapped person should be appointed in each Govt. establishment as per an order issued during 1980-81
Upper age limit for entry into State Govt. service has been raised upto 45 year


FREE TRAVEL 
Transport Dept., Govt. of West Bengal allows free travel to the visually impaired commuter and his/her escort in state buses and trams.
In order to avail this facility a visually impaired person have to obtain an identity card from the Regional  Transport Officer in the districts or from the respective State Transport Corporation.


STATE AWARDS 
Every year award is given to most efficient handicapped workers and their outstanding employees. This award is given on World disabled Day (3rd Sunday of March).


PROFESSIONAL TAX 
Visually impaired persons are exempted from payment of professional tax to the Govt. of West Bengal.


PENSION 
pension @ Rs.30/= per month for destitute unrehabilitibale disabled persons for maintenance is given.


HOUSING ACCOMODATION 
1% of Govt. flats and plots of lands are reserved for the handicapped


ECONOMIC REHABILITATION 
Govt. of West Bengal grants margin money/seed grant assistance upto 20% of the Project Cost sanctioned by Nationalised Banks for economic rehabilitation of the disabled.
