Concession in the State Transport Buses:

The Maharashtra State road Transport Corporation offers 75% concession to a blind commuter and 50% concession (conditional) to his/her escort as per circular No. RP/TRNS/CONS/208/Blind/88/65 dated 4th January 1989. B.E.S.T Undertaking allows blind commuters to travel in its buses at the flat concessional fare of 50 paise per journey with effect from January 12, 1991.

The Pune Municipal Corporation offers free travel to bona fide blind commuters in city/suburban on the following conditions:

1) Blind people wanting to take advantage of this concession should apply to the Department on the printed forms issued by the department. This application should be certified by the head of school/institution for the blind of the Civil Surgeon.

2) Applicant should make a payment of 25p. to the department for obtaining an Identity Card for this concession.

3) While travelling the blind person should produce this identity card as and when demanded by the employees of the Transport Department. If the identity card is not produced full fare will be charged.

4) Escorts of blind persons will be charged full fare.

5) If any other person necessary uses the identity card action will be taken by the department according to its rules.

6) Applicants must renew the identity card 15 days before the date of expiry. For the renewal of the identity card a fresh application duly certified should be filled. The renewal fee will be 25 p.


Exemption in payment of professional tax:
In accordance with the amendment to Section 27A of Maharashtra Act XVI of 1975 as appeared in Maharashtra Shasan Rajpatra Asadharan of March 26th, 1987 bona fide blind persons are exempted from payment of professional tax.

Housing Accommodation:

The deserving poor and destitute are provided monthly financial assistance from Rs. 60 to Rs. 90/-. Under this scheme loans up to Rs. 2000/- are also provided for socio-economic rehabilitation of the poor and destitute including the blind. For further information district collectorate and directorate of Social Welfare be contacted.

Special Scheme from Dept. of Social Justice and Empowerment:

Department of Social Welfare, Government of Maharashtra has introduced a Scheme of providing Cassette Recorder with Cassettes to college going blind students with a view to helping them in their higher education. This Scheme is implemented by the Government of Maharashtra through the NAB Unit, Maharashtra, Yashwant Mandai, 3rd Floor, Raviwar Karanja, Nashik 422 001. For further details, contact the Honorary General Secretary of NAB Unit, Maharashtra. Vide Circular no. 1083/23/18, dated 30-7-1885 of the General Administration Department, Government of Maharashtra, permanently blind government Employees in the Government Offices in the areas of municipal Corporations are given the facility of reporting to office late in the morning by 30 minutes or leaving the office earlier in the evening by 30 minutes, having regard to local needs, subject to their producing total blindness certificate and recommendation from the Ophthalmic Surgeon in the District Government Hospital.

Chair Recaning Work is exclusively reserved for institutions for the blind and the blind individuals in all Government offices. As per Govt. of Maharashtra Resolution No. (Bharwas/1086/225573/2387) Udyog, 6th August, 1981.
